An Historical moment in Sigma / Zeta Relations

Featured from left to right; Bro. Leo D. Rosebure of Alpha Beta Sigma Chapter Soror, Kay Jones Rosebure, Southern Regional Director, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Grand Basileus, Mary Breaux Wright, of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Bro. James Wright, Alpha Beta Sigma Chapter, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

For the first time in the history of Alpha Beta Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. two members of the same chapter, Bro. James Wright is the husband of the International President of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Mary Breaux Wright and Bro. Leo D. Rosebure is the husband of Soror kay Jones Rosebure, Zeta’s Southern Regional Director, and like wise for the first time in Zetas history, both wives are members of Lambda Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, in Houston Texas. Both couples also have children and family members who are Sigma’s & Zetas.

With such a strong bond and love for their organizations, it is no wonder that the spirited relationship between our International President, Jimmy Hammock and Grand, Mary Breaux Wright has fostered one of the greatest business and social collaborations of our time. Upon being elected as the International President of Zeta and knowing the importance of our 100th Year Anniversary and along with her love for Sigma, she immediately set about changing Zetas Boule’ from Florida to Washington D.C. in 2014 so that this once in a life time event could be shared by our brother and sister organizations. A tremendous accomplishment that speaks volumes for her commitment to Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.

Another Great Milestone
A Tribute to Bro. James L. Walker, Chaplain Emeritus

It is with great pride and honor that we acknowledge one of our dearest brothers and salute him on his 101st Birthday

Bro. James S. Walker a native Texan was born on January 17, 1916, a retired business man who taught school for several years after graduating Prairie View in 1941. Before and after serving 4 years in the U. S Army during World War II he owned a building and construction business for 15 years then moved to Houston and opened Ray’s Barbecue which he operated for 37 years. Bro. Walker is a 65 plus year member of Antioch Baptist Church, a life member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc, Alpha Beta Sigma Chapter, and a life member of the YMCA and the NAACP. He is also a member of the East Gate Lodge #432 A.F. and A.M. of Masons and is Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Anna Dupree Retirement Village. Bro. Walker is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions for his religious, civic, and community service. He was honored as “Mr. Prairie View” in 2003 by the Prairie View National Alumni Association. “Man of the Year” Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, as well as receiving the Humanitarian award by the Houston-Harris County Retired Teachers Association, the 1997 Malachi Award and the Golden Member Honoree Award by Antioch Baptist Church.

Bro. Walker was married to Mary Bell Greenwood until her death in 1969, and in 1972 he married Soror, Edna McGowen, who just recently passed away in the fall of 2012. She was always by his side and visited us often at the frat house for some good food and a great game of dominoes. She is truly missed. Bro. Walker is the father of two children, Bro. Don Walker (a sigma man), and his daughter Debra Walker Briggs. He is a grandfather and great grandfather affectionately known as “CJ”. The men of Alpha Beta Sigma Chapter helped Bro. Walker usher in his 101st  Birthday on January 17, 2017. Bro. James S. Walker remains active today as the Chaplain Emeritus of Alpha Beta Sigma Chapter. You can still catch him for a good game of dominoes every Monday at the frat house. “Bro. James S. Walker a great Phi Beta Sigma Man”
